National Tree of Belize

Belize Government's Description

The national tree of Belize is the Swietenia Macrophilla, also known as the Mahogany Tree. In the spring the leaves are a rich red-brown, and later the trees are covered with small white flowers. The fruit of the tree are pear-shaped and about six inches long. it takes about 60 to 80 years for a mahagony tree to mature. The mahagony tree is one of the elements on the Belize Coat of Arms.
