Marine Parks in Costa Rica

Ballena National Marine Park Most of this national marin=e park is underwater but it also has beautiful beaches, inluding Playa Ballena, Playa UVita Bay, and Playa Pinuela. The park was created in 1989 and it is located in the Puntarenas Province on the southern Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. Humpback whales can be seen swimming north July through through November and swimming south December through April.

Las Baulas National Marine Park
Located just north of Tamarindo and within the Tempisque Conservation Area of Costa Rica. The marine park is more than 40,000 acres in size and is the home of the largest leatherback sea turtle nexting colony on the Pacific Coast of Pan America. Sea turtles often come to Playa Grande to lay their eggs between October and May. Attractions include sandy beaches, forests, and the Matapalo River, but more than half of the park is underwater, and scuba diving is permitted.
