About Dominican Mamajuana
Information about the Dominican drink known as Mamajuana.
and alternatively as Mama Juana. It is made by soaking
solid items such as certain tree barks, leaves,
sticks, and herbs in a combination of rum, red wine, and
honey. It is a dark red color and its taste is similar
to port wine. It is rumored to be an aphrodesiac
and also rumored to have medicinal value
as a liver and kidney tonic, for cleansing the
blood, improving digestion, and even curing the flu.
Mamajua was invented as a branded herbal medicine in
the 1950's. It is possible to purchase either the
bottled drink or a combination of dry, solid items
you can use to make your own mamajuana.
