Dominican Republic Safety Advisories

- Keep a low profile in dress and behavior
- Travel on main routes whenever possible
- Avoid street crowds whenever possible
- Always be aware of our surroundings
- Don't leave valuables unattended in cars, beaches, etc
- Don't wear flashy jewelery or watches
- Cell phones hidden in a pocket (not belt, purse, or backpack)
- Better not to carry a purse, waist pack or backpack
- Be aware of possibilty of run-by or motorcycle-by grab-and-go theft
- Never take private taxis ("publicos")
- Only take hotel taxis or cabs licensed and ordered in advance
- Prostitution and sex tourism are common in certain areas of the DR
