Dominican Republic: Jimani
Republic of Haiti: Malpasse
On one of the two main highways connecting Haiti and the Dominican Rpublic. Has a duty-=free, open-air marketplace on the border. Jimani was designated a municipality in 1948 and it has two municipal districts, El Limon de Jimani and Boca de Cachon. In recent years, the town is perhaps most well-known for the damage it sustained during a flash flood on May 25, 2004. Many died and many homes were washed away. Jimani is located in the Independencia Province, it is about 180 square miles in size, and it has a population greater than 13,000.
