Thule Air Base

Information about the Thule Air Base, a United States air base located in Greenland. it is located about 750 miles north of the Arctic circle and it is the mostly northerly of the United States Armed Forces installations. The base is operated by the United States Air Force Space command under an agreement with the Kingdom of Denmark, which still controls the foreign affairs of Greenland. The base was built in the 1950's on the former site of Greenland's mostly northerly hunting village, the settlement of Pituffik. Between 1951 and 1953 the former residents of that town were moved by dog sled to a new town about 80 miles north called Qaanaaq, which is sometimes called "Nwe Thule".
