Sonora Beaches
Puerto Penasco
Old fishing town on the Sonora coast of the Sea of Cortez.
Also known as "Rocky Point".
Has a population of more then 25,000.
Popular activities include fishing, kayakig, sailing, snorkeling,
scuba diving, windsurfing, playing in the sand dunes,
and auto racing, motorcycle racing, and nightlife.
Puerto Penasco has about 40 hotels, 70 restaurants,
and quite a few campgrounds and RV parks.
Home of the Intercultural Center for Study of
Deserts and Oceans (CEDO). The Pinacate Biosphere Reserve
and its huge thousand year old crater
are located in the Altar Desert, about 30 miles northwest
of Puerto Penasco.
Located about 70 miles south of the
Arizona-Mexican border town of ? and
about 210 miles southwest of Tucson, Arizona.
Easily accessible by driving on a modern four lane highway.
