Colonia del Sacramento Historic Quarter
The historic quarter of the city of Colonia del Sacramento
was designated a UNESCO world heritage site in 1995 because
of its well-preserved architecture that includes
Portuguese, Spanish, and post-colonial influences.
Colonia del Sacramento is situated on the banks of
the Rio de la Plata and it is within the Colonia Department
of Uruguay.
UNESCO Tentative List
Penarol Historic, Industrial, and Railway District
The official title of this historic and cultural site
- added to the UNESCO tentative list in 2014 - is
"Quartier de Penarol: la Vieille Ville historique et le
paysage industriel ferroviaire". The site is located
in the Montevideo Department of Uruguay.
