Guanacaste Tourism Region
Information about the Guanacaste tourism region of Costa Rica.
This dry region in the northwest corner of Costa Rica, is adjacent to Nicaragua and the southwest shore of Lake Nicaragua. This region has some of Costa Rica's best Pacific Ocean surfing beaches and several large volcanic and dry forest park in the northern section near the Nicaraguan border. The International Airport in Liberia has flights from Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, and Miami. You can access the beaches of Guanacaste from San Jose by taking a ferry from Puntarenas across the Golfo de Nicoya. You can also drive across the Puente de la Amistad (Bridge of Friendship).
