About Lake Oviedo
Information about Lake Oviedo, the second largest lake
in the Dominican Republic, second only to Lake Enriquillo.
Freshwater from the Bahuruco Mountain Range but it is salty
because seawater also flows into the lake through an
underground system of caves and tunnels. Limestone sediments
flowing through the underground system give the lake it
characteristic light green color. Flora and fauna surrounding
the lake include flamingos, iguanas, mangroves, and many
species of birds.
