National Day of Greenland
June 21 is a holiday known as "National Day" in Greenland. it was introduced in 1983 as a day on which Greenland can celebrate and express its cultural identity and values. The date was selected because it is the longest and lightest day of the year.

Other special events and holidays celebrated in Greenland include Christmas with is a festive time of year in Greenland and New Year's Eve, which is celebrated twice in Greenland, by a fireworks display at 8:00 p.m., which marks the New Year in Denmark and another fireworks display at 12:00 midnight which marks the New Year in Greenland.
