Islas de la Bahia is the namej of the main group of islands
administered under the Bay Islands Department of Honduras.
It includes Roatan Island, Guanaja Island, Utila island,
and many smaller islands and islets.
Three Main Bay Islands of Honduras
Roatan Island
The largest of the Honduran Bay Islands is about
50 miles long and about 5 miles across at its
widest point. The main towns on the island are
Coxen Hole, French Harbour, West End, Sandy Bay,
and Oak Ridge.
Guanaja Island
The Bay Island of Guanaja is about 7.5 miles from
Roatan Island and about 43 miles off the northern
coast of the Honduras Mainland. One of the cays
off of Guanaja Island - Low Cay - is the home
of most of the 10,000 or so people who live on
Guanaja.
Utila Island
Smallest of the three main Bay Islands of Honduras.
Utila is a popular scuba diving destination and it
is also the home of the annual SunJam Electronic
Music Festival.
